Mary Allison began dancing when she was three years old, and she stuck with it throughout her childhood. She then pursued dance in college, which was where she discovered her love for modern dance. She began studying under Kristin O’Neal, at Santa Fe College, who showed her that dance was an outlet of expression and an art form. With her new love and understanding of this world of dance, she pursued her BFA in Dance Performance at the University of Florida.
In 2011, Mary moved to Sarasota, FL, to pursue a professional career in dance with Sarasota Contemporary Dance (SCD) where she danced for 9 seasons with numerous diverse dance artists and choreographers. She choreographed for St. Petersburg College, West Coast Civic Ballet, School of Russian Ballet, productions at Southside Elementary School, SCD and was commissioned to create a piece for a Selah Freedom Fundraiser, raising awareness for Human Trafficking. The piece Mary choreographed which shed light on Human Trafficking, "Exploited", was produced by SCD to be expanded into a full evening length work. God placed Mary at WFA the first year she was in the area, when the academy was only 2 years old. She has been amazed to see it grow and expand to what it is today, and is so blessed by it's fruits.
In 2016, Mary began WFA's Dance Company (DaCo) and continues to direct and choreograph for these audition based groups.
Mary must humble herself on a daily basis because she is married to an even better dancer than her. His name is Matt. He once choreographed a Meerkat dance that hundreds of people performed on a Caribbean cruise. He also danced at a few weddings and puts sunglasses on to dance in the aisles of Target. They have a son, Asher, who is learning sweet moves from Dada.
Mary has a passion for teaching and motivating her students to pursue excellence and to love movement. But most importantly, she wants them to know God is the root of all things good, and all success goes directly back to Him. She could not have dreamed of working at a better place than WFA and is grateful for the opportunity to serve as a faculty member of the Academy.
