Xiao-Xuan Yang Dancigers
Dance Instructor
Born in Taiwan, Xiao-Xuan Yang Dancigers was nominated for Best Female Dancer in Australia in 2009 and has performed internationally across Asia, Europe, Australia, and the United States with acclaimed companies including Australian Dance Theatre and Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan. She is currently a Founding Company Member and Associate Director of the Sarasota Contemporary Dance Ensemble and has been performing and choreographing with Sarasota Contemporary Dance since 2012.
She previously served as Assistant Professor at the Taipei National University of the Arts and has been performing and choreographing with Sarasota Contemporary Dance (SCD) since 2012. Xuan has also danced with Nimbus Dance in Jersey City, including performances at the prestigious Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival.
In 2013, she co-choreographed Dreamfall with Leymis Bolaños Wilmott, featuring music by NOW Ensemble. Her solo performances have drawn high praise—her portrayal in Wilmott’s Summer Days was noted for “total ownership of the characterization” (Sarasota Herald-Tribune), while Gerri Houlihan’s Every Little Movement was described as “long and unspeakably gorgeous” (Bradenton Herald).
Her choreographic work includes Signal (2017), created for New Music New College to music by Luciano Berio, and was hailed as “stunning... precise” (Herald-Tribune). Since 2023, she has also taught classes at the New College of Florida.
Dedicated to sharing the joy of movement, Xuan teaches across generations, including at the Sarasota Art Museum and Woodland Fine Arts Academy( summer in 2024). Since 2019, she has co-directed the SCD Ensemble and leads her Dance for Joy classes at Aviva Senior Living, Plymouth Harbor, Leonard Reid House and Suncoast club at Prestancia .
