theater class descriptions

Drama & Creative Imagination- K-3rd Grades
This class introduces creative play and brings stories and our imaginations to life. Young actors will learn to act believably in imaginative circumstances through acting exercises, game play, storytelling and theater related skits and activities. We will engage students in creativity by using their bodies and minds explore drama and theatrics.

Drama - 4th-12th Grades
Our actors learn techniques in voice, movement, improvisation, character work and scene study along with exercises that help sharpen their senses, instincts and imagination.  Ensemble and connection work teach actors to focus as one rather than individuals.  Excellence comes through repetition and preparation.  We incorporate techniques by Stanislaviski, Hagen, Adler and others to expose actors to the full gamut of techniques currently being taught by masters in the craft for monologue, scene study and ensemble work.
"If you were born with the ability to change someone's perspective or emotions, never waste that gift. It is one of the most powerful gifts God can give - THE ABILITY TO INFLUENCE!" - Shannon Adler

Musical Theater Technique - K-2nd & 3rd-5th Grades
Musical theater is a form of theatrical performance that combines songs, spoken words, acting, and dance. Theatrical performance teaches essential life skills including showmanship, teamwork, and creativity while providing a platform for one to discover their inner talents and build self-confidence. In addition to building musical theater singing and dancing skills, students will work on monologues and participate in a mock audition. They will learn the proper skills for auditioning and creating an audition book.
Students will perform in the WFA Dance Showcase.

Musical Theater Technique & Spring Production - 6th-12th Grades
In the Fall semester, students will train in 3 areas of technique: acting, dance and vocal technique (descriptions below).
In the Spring semester, they will switch to working on a full production of MTI's Disney Newsies Jr.!
  • Musical Theater Dance Styles: is less of a particular style, and more of a description of dancing that is rooted in the diverse history of Broadway musicals. In the performing business, auditions are your tests, and dance classes are where you study.  In this class we will focus on increasing your strength, flexibility and endurance. Both theatre and dance history as well as vocabulary will be incorporated in this class.
  • Acting: Our actors learn techniques in voice, movement, improvisation, character work and scene study along with exercises that help sharpen their senses, instincts and imagination.
